Yesterday we reported on how Sporting Lisbon were interested in Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Having been declared an outcast by Jose Mourinho, Manchester United were hoping that the German midfielder could be moved on to get his huge salary off of the books.

Yesterday we also commented on how, with Bastian playing in what amounts to an international farewell game for Germany, there might be trouble completing any necessary transfer paperwork ahead of the closure of the summer transfer window at midnight tonight.

Well it seems that there will be no need to rush the transfer paperwork through with it being reported by the Daily Star, Click Here, the 32-year-old midfielder has turned down the chance to join Sporting Lisbon on either a free transfer or a loan.

Schweinsteigers` decision, according to our referenced source, has infuriated Jose Mourinho and unless there is a dramatic change of heart by Bastian, it looks more likely than ever that the midfielder will spend the next four months in the wilderness waiting to see what materialises in the January transfer window.

Mind you, if I was earning a reputed £200,000 a week, I wouldn`t be too fazed at just going through the motions for the immediate future, would you?
