Back in the fold after a year away in Italy, Federico Macheda has started our tour of the US well.

Two goals, in the opening game against New England Revolution, will have done a lot to show Sir Alex Ferguson that he could very well be a contender for a striking place this season.

Speaking about his time in Italy, it looks as if it wasn`t all plain sailing with Federico remarking,

“I had a tough time. I didn`t find a lot of opportunity there and the team was relegated.”

“I couldn`t really go out of my house during the six months. There was always the chance you`d end up fighting with the Sampdoria fans. They were angry.”

“It`s not like with United. The fans in Italy can be a little crazy when things don`t go well.”

They say loan spells are there for experience to be gained, although we`re not sure that`s the kind of experience Sir Alex had in mind for the young Italian.

But now he`s back at Old Trafford, Ferderico is looking for further chances to impress, remarking,

“I`m happy with what I`ve done for United in the past but want to do more. If boss Alex Ferguson gives me a chance I`ll take it.”

That could be, with so many striking options, what Macheda has to do, take his chance when presented with it!
