Saha Keen On Stay

There has never been any doubting Louis Saha’s ability. His goal to game ratio is extremely impressive and he is a player that can guarantee you 20 goals a season…..if fit.

Sadly, Saha’s recent years at United have been plagued by a knee injury which has prevented him from ever becoming the Old Trafford legend the performances in 2005/2006 hinted at.

Rumours have been rife recently about loan moves to Roma or a cheeky transfer to premier league strugglers Bolton. However, the Frenchman has stayed loyal to his word that he wants to stay at United and prove his worth.

‘I am under contract at Manchester until 2010. Moreover, the coach didn’t say anything to me yet, neither about a transfer or a loan.’

The 29 year old went on to say…

‘I don’t hide anything. I will say it again: I have to play before thinking about anything else. I will forecast nothing before knowing what will happen for me.I am a football player, and I have not been able to play. Today, only the pitch matters to me.’

The striker then revealed he has already started a Summer rehabilitation program, and is confident of being fit for the start of next season.

‘I have worked all summer long. There were facilities close to my home so I have worked with a specific program. I know what I want – to be fit for the start of the season.’

I for one hope he stays. I know there has been alot of cynicism amongst United fans regarding his commitment to the club, but I feel these are untrue. For all his injuries last season Saha still managed 22 games for us, 17 in the league and 5 in the Champions League. Furthermore, he has never moaned about being a squad player. A successful team needs players like Saha, O’shea and Fletch – players that are willing to bide their time on the bench for the good of the whole. Take Nicolas Anelka for example, who in my opinion is on an even par with Saha in terms of ability – but who makes the more fuss? Who is it that has been dubbed ‘le sulk’?

If the past few weeks have taught us anything it is that very few players are truly committed to their club, and I for one think its time we got off Saha’s back and started to encourage him back to full fitness…because there is no doubting how much he can aid us when available.
