Wayne Rooney, currently banned as the FA decided to bite the hand that feeds, has warned Manchester United that he can’t replace Ruud van Nistelrooy by himself.

He told The Sun: ‘A lot has been said about the fact we cannot fill Ruud’s boots. I am not saying we can but what we are trying to do is spread the goals out throughout the team. So in that sense it was good myself, Louis and Cristiano all managed to get a goal.’

Saha and Ronaldo joined Rooney on the scoresheet in the 5-1 thrashing of Fulham.

Rooney continued: ‘They were my first competitive goals since the game at Tottenham last April and it was playing on my mind a little bit. I didn’t want to get to the middle of September without scoring, so it is a bit of a relief. Now, all I can do is carry on training. Maybe I will ask the gaffer for a couple of days off – but I doubt that will happen.’

He also says ‘You don’t get away with playing dull football at this club. You walk out onto the pitch and the noise is deafening. United fans love seeing us attack teams. That is what we like to do and hopefully that will continue.’

Too right!
