Rooney aims to win the title against Arsenal on Saturday, not only to end this race at last but to shut their fans up about winning the league at Old Trafford. We all remember that stinker of a game when Ferguson dropped a shattered Van Nistelrooy after the Champions League exit and United could not fashion a clear chance during 90 minutes…

‘One point will win the title for us. Hopefully that can come on Saturday. It would be brilliant to do it in front of our own fans and brilliant to win it against Arsenal, who are a great footballing team.

‘When they come to Old Trafford you always hear them singing about winning the title at Old Trafford, so it would be nice to win against them. That would be special.’

‘We want to do it in front of our own fans, I think the manager’s said we’ve only done that once in 17 years. And to win it three years on the run would be amazing.’

Winning the league at Old Trafford against Arsenal – there are only three better scenarios than this. Winning it against City, winning it against Liverpool or winning it at Anfield…
