David Gill and Sir Alex Ferguson both declared that Wayne Rooney will not be going anywhere, Real Madrid denied their alleged interest in him and now the player himself has rubbished the rumours of moving to Spain.

‘This is my club. I’m very happy here. My family live 30 minutes away. I’m perfectly happy and there is no reason to play my football anywhere else. Manchester United are the biggest club in the world.’

End of story, as far as I’m concerned. Rooney also went on to admit that maybe he hasn’t been entirely fair to his old boss David Moyes.

‘Things haven’t been good between us,’ he said.

‘I’ve said a few bad things in the past about him but, when I look back, I see what he did for me. He helped make me the player I am.’

And we’re eternally grateful for that help, aren’t we?
