With twenty-seven goals already to his name this season, Wayne Rooney has accumulated 175 goals in a United shirt.

In the goal-scoring stakes that puts him in 5th place just 4 goals behind those in joint 4th, Dennis Viollet and George Best.

At the top of the charts is the legend that is Bobby Charlton with 249 goals.

By our reckoning, if Rooney stays with Manchester United, then he could overtake Sir Bobby inside the next four seasons.

Taking about the goal-scoring record, Wayne has this to say to the official United publication,

“Of course it would be an unbelievable feeling if I could get his record.”

“I`m still along way away but hopefully, one day, I`ll be able to do it.”

“Viollet and Best are club legends and to be in touching distance of their goal tally is something I`m really proud of. Hopefully I`ll overtake them soon.”

We`d be very surprised if, under the terms we set out earlier, he didn`t overtake them all!
