Although it wasn`t the best of performances out in Romania, the three points, albeit through two penalties, were most welcome.

The penalties, both converted by Wayne Rooney, gave the striker a place in the record books by increasing his goal tally, in Champions League football, to 26.

This figure represents the most goals scored by an Englishman in the Champions League.

Regarding the penalties, Sir Alex Ferguson was quick to add in his post match press interview,

“Wayne showed his composure and took his penalties well.”

He sure did, even more so with the vultures of the tabloid press no doubt preparing some sensational headlines if either failed to hit the net!
