What the future holds for our all-time record goal-scorer, Wayne Rooney, is a great unknown.

The 31-year-old could stay at Old Trafford, he could be heading for a return to Everton Football Club or there could be the proverbial financial carrot dangled in front of him from either the United States or China.

But, whatever the future does hold for Rooney it seems his exploits for Manchester United will see the player held in high regard.

Indeed, the good folk of The Sun are championing the inference that Manchester United will offer Rooney an ambassador`s role at the club.

This role will be offered to Rooney wherever he decides to finish his career and if he accepts it he will join the likes of other former players who occupy such roles, namely:

? Bryan Robson

? Nemanja Vidic

? Dwight Yorke

and

? Andy Cole.

Our referenced source also implies that the suggestion has already been approved by the clubs` owners, the Glazer family.
