Sven has confirmed that Manchester United striker and England star Wayne Rooney will start in tonight’s game against the so far disappointing Swedes.

Sven told the FA site that opponents are ‘worried’ about Rooney adding: ‘I think opponents they don`t want to hear that Rooney is going to start the game. I don`t think anyone wants to meet Rooney today, even if he is coming back from injury.’

‘The good news is that Rooney is fit, he is on fire out there. Even in the box he is tackling all over. His desire, his wish to do well in this World Cup is enormous. He`s been working very, very hard since he was injured to be at the level he is at today.’

He also says the Reds return is a major boost:

‘I think it`s important for the players, for the squad and for the England fans that he is back. They want to see Wayne Rooney playing.’

Sven does warn not to put too much pressure on Rooney though, he says we can’t expect him to be 100% match fit yet ‘But I expect him to be a little bit better than last time. What he needs is matches. The touches, combinations, the timing is what you lose when you don`t play football for a long time. He`s fit, he can run and do everything but it`s those final things he has to find – and it`s coming, day by day.’

Newcastle United striker Michael Owen is expected to partner Rooney with Peter Crouch being rested due to the fact he is already on a yellow card. Once tonight’s game is over, the yellow card count goes back to zero.
