Wayne Rooney had the whole country asking the question ‘should footballers gamble?’, but he has now resolved his ‘outstanding issues’.

The Manchester United star reportedly ran up a debt of some £700,000, but company Goldchip said that, after talks with Rooney’s management, the matter was ‘now closed’.

Goldchip: ‘Following recent press stories Goldchip is pleased to state that outstanding issues between the company and Wayne Rooney have now been fully resolved as a result of talks between Stephen Smith and Paul Stretford of Proactive Sports Management.

‘The matter is now closed and there will be no further comment.’
