All the speculation about who would be the captain of Manchester United has finally been ended.

With Nemanja Vidic having left for pastures new, our Dutch boss Louis van Gaal has been mulling over who should be the new captain of Manchester United Football Club.

The media believed that it would be a straight shoot-out between Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie with the latter possibly having the edge as he captained the national Dutch side managed by van Gaal.

However, the announcement came through, yesterday, van Gaal had selected Wayne Rooney as the club captain, prompting Rooney to remark,

“It is a huge honour for me – and my family – to be named the captain of this great club. It is a role I will perform with great pride.”

“I am very grateful to the manager for the faith he has shown in me.”

“I look forward to leading the team out on Saturday.”

Does the choice of Rooney meet with your approval or should the black armband have been given to somebody else in the squad?
