Wayne Rooney has been passed fit after coming through Tuesday’s training without a hitch. He is set to start against AC Milan, even though Sir Alex had expressed concerns about his fitness after the 1-0 at Wolves on Saturday.

However, the boss confirmed that his best player would be available for selection tonight as United aim to hold on to a 3-2 lead from the first leg in the 1st knockout round of the Champions League.

It brings the question: how will we line up? Fergie has two strikers to choose from which means that he could field a 4-4-2, thus leaving Gibson out. But it’s very dangerous to pit only Scholes and Fletcher against Milan’s experienced central midfielders.

I expect Valencia, Park and Nani to form a supporting three behind Rooney, with Fletcher and Scholes playing deep and Berbatov on the bench. This would allow us to control the game and Scholes’ aging legs would get plenty of protection from Fletcher and the centrally deployed Park.

Yeah, it doesn’t look very good but what can we do? We can wish that Carrick was available – but he’s not.
