Wayne Rooney may well have made himself a leading candidate for man of the match with his hat-trick display at Upton Park but the striker could also find himself in hot water.

After netting in the 78th minute Wayne was quite clearly heard mouthing obscenities which the Sky Sports microphones clearly picked up.

It`s still being decided whether the FA will charge Wayne with a FA spokesperson apparently remarking,

“We will look into it. We obviously do not condone foul or abusive language in front of the TV cameras.”

Rooney has moved quickly to tray and diffuse the situation by issuing an apology, an apology which reads,

“I want to apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my goal celebration, especially any parents or children that were watching.”

“Emotions were running high and on reflection my heat-of-the-moment reaction was inappropriate. It was not aimed at anyone in particular.”

We wait with baited breath to see the outcome of this latest folly!
