Wayne Rooney has minor ligament damage, the club confirmed. However, it is still unclear how long he will be out of action – Sir Alex Ferguson will disclose that in his press conference on Friday.

Sky Sports News happen to believe Rooney will be out for 2-4 weeks which looks a fair prognosis considering there’s no fracture or tear but merely a little damage. However, nothing is certain apart from the fact that Rooney is not only doubtful for Saturday as Fergie said after the Bayern game but he’s certainly out of that and of the CL quarter-final second leg as well.

It is a massive blow but what can we do? At least the team will be even more focused, hopefully – after all, there’s no Rooney to bail us out so everyone will have to raise their game. A two-week absence would mean Rooney missing three games: Chelsea, Bayern, Blackburn. He could be rushed back for the away game at Manchester City although rushing players back from injury can be a very bad idea, see Fabregas and Gallas yesterday…

We’ll see. At the moment, we have to place our trust in Berbatov. He scored 8 goals in his last 9 league starts, chaps, so it’s far from doom and gloom.
