It was another night without an England goal for Wayne Rooney last night.

Although England scored four Rooney extended his barren run, in an England shirt, to 11 games.

But his performance was full of verve and it was Rooney`s excellent pass that provided Ashley Cole with the assist for that vital first goal.

After the game, Fabio Capello spoke about Rooney in his press conference, remarking,

“The assists of Rooney were fantastic. The position Rooney played this evening was different to what he plays usually. I asked him to play differently and he did very well.”

“I spoke with him before the game. We knew the style when we prepared the game, what really happens on the pitch, what system Bulgaria would play.”

“I decided to play Rooney in this position.”

“He had to stay just in front of the two central midfielders and, from this position, go forward. He had to have free movement.”

“He had to get lots of touches of the ball because his quality is so good.”

So is Rooney on the way back or has he never really been away?
