Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Barclays Player Of The Month award for November after a series of fine performances. United did not claim the ‘double double’ though, for Sir Alex Ferguson lost out to Steve Coppell of Reading for the managers’ prize.

In October, Paul Scholes won the players’ award and Sir Alex got the managers’ one, just like in August when Ryan Giggs has been selected as the best player. The awards reflect United’s impressive league form, with the Reds currently sitting at the top of the table, six points clear although Chelsea have a game in hand.

To be honest, I’m a bit surprised as Ronaldo had had better periods before and the controversy surrounding the penalty he won us at the Riverside could have been enuogh to knock him out of contention for the award.

Still, I’m happy he got it but it wasn’t nearly as an obvious choice as it had been selecting Scholes in October or Giggsy in August when they had been clearly the main source of inspiration for United.
