Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Francesc Fabregas, Steven Gerrard and Didier Drogba are this year’s nominees for the Player of the Year award.

Surprise surprise: Ronaldo is on the list. Will he win it? Well, if the award goes anywhere else, that will be a greater shock than Wimbledon’s FA Cup win over Liverpool in 1988.

Didier Drogba’s been suffering a dip in form in recent weeks and he scored only two more goals than Ronaldo – and the Ivorian is an out-and-out striker, unlike our favourite winking winger.

To be honest, I feel the other four are only there to make up the numbers. Steven Gerrard’s performances have been below par this season – at least according to all Liverpool fans I spoke to. Jamie Carragher would have been a worthy candidate instead of him. Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have been fantastic this season but they are dwarfed by Ronaldo, to be honest.

John Terry has already revealed that he had voted for Ronaldo and I expect the vast majority to do so.

He could even take the Young Player of the Year award: Fabregas, Aaron Lennon, Micah Richards and Kevin Doyle are all in the running, as well as Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney who could achieve a hat-trick of awards.
