Cristiano Ronaldo is trying to play down the series of bust-ups that some say resulted in Ruud van Nistelrooy heading for the exit at Manchester United.

The Daily Mail has reported that Ronaldo and van Nistelrooy argued on the training pitch days before Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson began to freeze the Dutch striker from his plans, for the sake of team spirit.

Ronaldo: ‘Quarrels happen in all teams, in all professions. It’s normal to have small disagreements.

‘That’s what happened, something perfectly normal. People are turning it into something and it’s only a storm in a teacup.’
