Cristiano Ronaldo is regretting his controversial sending-off, saying he would like to play again.

Things went from bad to worse since the opening day’s stalemate versus Reading. Rooney broke his foot, United drew at Pompey and lost at Citeh and Cristiano Ronaldo has been hit with a three-match ban for a red card at Fratton Park.

He appeared to aim a headbutt at a Portsmouth player which earned a straight red. He will miss the games against Spurs and Sunderland though he craves nothing more than being out on the field, trying to get United back on course after a disappointing start.

‘I’m feeling sad not being able to play,’ the Portuguese told the Daily Mirror.

‘It is so frustrating, particularly when we are not able to win right now.

‘But I’m optimistic and I have confidence in United, even though the beginning of the season is bad.

‘But the situation will change soon and we will be positive.’
