Let me state first that I agree with my esteemed colleague united4life: there’s been too much written about Ronaldo. However, I feel his latest comments are worthy of attention.

It’s not the fact he stays – I’m not certain that is beneficial, especially that we could have received an enormous fee for him and if he leaves next year the price will be lower. It might not be in the best interests of the team as his ego could prove too big to do the job for the team.

However, I’m happy that he had the class, the decency to at least make a very public comment which, at the very least, seems honest. He is responsible for the controversy (along with Real Madrid of course) and I’m happy that he found it important to stress that it is an honour to play for Manchester United – even if he does not feel so.

I also appreciate that he did not try to deny he was trying to engineer a move to Madrid. As he said, it would be only a feeble attempt to cheat everyone’s consciousness. It might not be enough to bring back the Viva Ronaldo chants but it is the first bit of class he’s shown since the Champions League final…
