It`s hard to see Rio Ferdinand coming back onto the international scene after not making Roy Hodgson`s party of 23 for the Euro 2012 Finals in Poland and the Ukraine.

Omitted yesterday, speculation, as we suspected it might be, is rife in the tabloid press this morning that the comments made by Sir Alex Ferguson, relating to Rio`s suitability to play every four days may well have influenced the new England boss.

However, discussing the situation and also explaining why Rio wasn`t chosen, Roy Hodgson had this to say at his press conference yesterday lunchtime, commenting,

“I had a private conversation with Sir Alex 10 days ago. Rio has done exceptionally well this year. He`s played a lot of matches through injury.”

“He`s got himself on the field of play when many a player would not have done so.”

“Rio took the decision well. He said ‘”He was obviously disappointed. I`d be surprised had he not been.”

“He was very gracious and wished myself and the team the very best of luck in the tournament.”

As for Rio, he`s remained gracious and has used his Twitter account to give an insight into how he feels about probably calling time on his England career, tweeting,

“Absolutely loved playing for England. To say I`m gutted is an understatement of the highest order.”

Something tells me there could be further fall-out from this affair. How about you?
