This evening, Manchester United are in Turin, to take on Real Sociedad in the first knockout round of the 2020 / 2021 Europa League.

The first leg of this tie is being played in Turin at Juventus’ Allianz Arena stadium to overcome the travel restrictions currently in place, courtesy of Covid-19, in Real Sociedad’s homeland, Spain.

It is yet another quark associated with the strange times we currently live in.

When the draw was made, I was pleased that Manchester United had drawn one, probably, of the weakest teams left in the competition but then again, we should not discount the threat the Spanish side present even more so when you consider that Manchester United have not won any of their last nine fixtures against Spanish sides.

This is the third meeting between the two sides with the clubs having crossed swords in 2013 / 2014 Champions League group stages, with United winning 1-0 at Old Trafford and drawing 0-0 in Spain.
