Yesterday the media world was alive with the insistence that Manchester United had made a solid move to bring Sergio Ramos to Old Trafford.

It appeared that Manchester United were set to capitalise on the uncertainty relating to the Spanish international remaining at the Bernabeu and had set the ball in motion to do a permanent deal by offering Real Madrid £35 million for the players` services.

However, the word on the street this morning is that Real Madrid have turned down United`s offer and that, on the back of the rejection, Manchester United are now deciding whether to make an improved bid.

But, if that is the case, it needs to be decided how high Manchester United are prepared to go without being suckered into a deal whereby we`ve coughed up too much cash for a decent player but one who is, it has to be said, unproven in the Premier League as of yet!
