PSV Under 21s Beat United Under 21s

|

Manchester United under 21s lose to PSV Eindhoven Under 21s 2-0.

United were coming into the side with only one registered win in the domestic league, the Premier League 2, however, staff are not worried about the results this season as they are prioritising individual development rather than results.

The young Red Devils’ results in the International Cup had so far been a draw with Sparta Prague and a loss to Monaco, so a win would have been an aim against PSV before the new year.

United Under 21s manager Mark Dempsey put the team together in a 4-3-3 formation with D’shon Bernard captaining the side.

Bernard’s centre-half partner Rhys Bennet pulled the team together alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the opening minutes as the Dutch team piled on the pressure with their high press.

Mainoo who has recently caught the attention of the first team coach at United Erik Ten Hag played an instrumental part in beating the away side’s press in the first half.

PSV had two great chances after the 20-minute mark with United striker Joe Hugill having the best chance of the game so far just before half-time.

Bennet was taken off and Logan Pye was brought on off the bench it seemed like United missed his height and commanded the back line as Eindhoven opened the scoring from a simple cross that was put in the box.

With United trailing, PSV became more threatening with a good chance on the hour mark that was not put away.

A shout from Isak Hansen-Aareon after he was brought down in the penalty box was waived away by the referee. PSV made it two with United only just bringing four players onto the pitch.

A win for the Dutch side who proved to be the better team and took their chances, a contrast to United in front of goal.
