It seems rather foolish to say United have striking problems; after all, we’ve scored the most goals in the league so far. Yet a whole load of people are talking about our striker crisis and now I can see their point.

Rossi loaned out, Solskjaer injured again and it seems Alan Smith is unable to regain his sharpness without many more games – so Sir Alex has accepted two loan offers for him, from Cardiff and Leeds.

I’d fully support the idea of a short-term loan had we possess three quality strikers. We have three but one of them is out for at least two more weeks so sending Smith away right now would mean United will have do with 2 attackers – and that seems a little bit thin.

Sir Alex admitted that this move may not turn out to be good for the team’s sake but he seems to have put forward Alan’s interests.

‘There is a bit of a risk. But in the present situation, he needs to get through competitive matches and he is still a bit short for us in that.

‘He is improving but it’s only through games that he’s going to get it back.’

Smudger himself is reportedly unsure about whether he should move. I’m also unsure but that’s why I set up a poll about it!
