Preston manager Billy Davies expects a decision on Manchester United loanee David Jones’ future within two weeks.

The 21-year-old midfielder’s loan from the Old Trafford giants only runs up to the January transfer window, but North End are hopeful he will stay at Deepdale for the rest of the season.

Jones has made 20 appearances for North End this term and has established himself as a key figure in Davies’ side.

‘I have spoken to Sir Alex in the last week or so and we’ve started to discuss the situation, we’ve agreed to try and finalise that over the next week or two,’ Davies told the club’s official website.

‘We’re keeping our fingers crossed because we would like to keep him until the end of the season. He is a wonderful young player and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed having him here.

‘He has really enjoyed himself here too and I’m sure we would both like the situation to stay the same and him to stay until the end of the season.’
