Relief got the better of Gary Neville at Old Trafford yesterday when Rio Ferdinand scored the late winner against Liverpool. As the rest of the team ran one way, the United skipper decided to ‘celebrate’ with the Liverpool fans.

Well …. sort of!

But Greater Manchester Police have written to the FA and Manchester United to complain about Neville’s actions after several complaints from Liverpool supporters.

A statement from GMP read: ‘Chief Superintendent Andy Holt has written a letter expressing his concern. No criminal investigation is taking place at this stage.’

Neville was captured by television cameras grabbing his shirt and gesticulating towards Liverpool’s supporters after being the subject of abuse by the Scousers.
