The longest running transfer saga of the summer and one which will see Manchester United break the world record for a transfer fee looks set to be done and dusted in the next twenty-four hours.

Manchester United`s pursuit of Paul Pogba has featured many times on our pages this summer as Juventus and Manchester United discussed the ‘statement` deal Jose Mourinho promised the United support.

Yesterday, Manchester United officially confirmed that Pogba had arrived in Manchester to undertake a medical ahead of the completion of the deal.

Following the successful Community Shield clash with Leicester, a game in which another summer signing, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, scored the winner, Jose Mourinho confirmed that the deal to bring Pogba to Old Trafford will be completed on Tuesday, barring any calamitous medical reports.

This morning the indications are that Manchester United will pay Juventus £89 million with the remainder of the £100+ million fee going to the players` agent.

Talking about the deal, Mourinho also suggested in the Community Shield post-match press conference that Pogba was better of returning to Manchester United than the two Spanish giants, remarking,

‘United is the perfect club to bring Pogba to the level he wants to be, and the Premier League is the perfect habitat for that.

‘If you want to be the best player in the world and go to Barcelona or Real Madrid you’re in trouble because the big guys won`t let you.’

Fingers crossed the medical doesn`t highlight any potential problems.
