Gerard Pique has no intention of leaving United despite the interest of other clubs. He may be reasonably confident about his chances at us.

Pique’s performances are one of the bright spots of this campaign that’s looking quite good anyway. His first United goal came as a big boost for the young Spanish defender and though his chances are extremely restricted by having Ferdinand and Vidic ahead of him, he can be sure that he will get his chance again.

He is quite confident: he revealed that though Atletico Madrid showed an interest in him he didn’t want to leave Old Trafford.

‘You never know what can happen in life, but right now my future is with Manchester United,’ said Pique.

‘I have a lot of pride when a club such as Atletico is interested in me, that means I am doing something good.

‘Atletico have demonstrated that they belong in the top group of teams and they would be a good option for any player.

‘If things do not work out for then I will look at my future at Old Trafford – but I am only thinking about working hard and improving every day.’

With Silvestre out and Brown needed on the right, we would be a bit short in central defense had it not been for Mr. Pique and Mr. Evans. And with quite meaningless Champions League games coming up they could end up playing reasonably much. Sporting home, Derby home: both are extremely good opportunities to rest either Ferdinand or Vidic and give Pique the opportunity.

He’s surprised me in that Carling Cup fiasco by being slow and clumsy but surprised me again at Aston Villa where he played really well at a demanding place. So far, he’s doing well to earn Sir Alex’s trust – long may he keep it up.
