Marcus Rashford got the Manchester United fans off their seats with an excellent solo goal to help United defeat Burnley 2-0 at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup.
Rashford, making his first start for United since the World Cup needed no time to get into the groove as he continued his impressive World Cup form with England to produce the goods for Erik ten Hag’s side.
It was a well-taken goal from the England man, as he started running from his own half and continued running until he sprinted into the Burnley box, enabling him to strike his shot into the bottom corner after he managed to make room for the shot between Jack Cork and Jordan Beyer. The goal can be seen in the tweet below.

Rashford, who has now scored nine goals in all competitions [Transfermarkt], was also awarded the Player of the Match trophy for his all-round display as he was full of endeavour and application, which is something that he has brought to the table on a more consistent basis this season and it is refreshing to see from a United perspective.

Even though ten Hag will rightly get the praise for the improvement in Rashford’s game this season, a special mention should also go to the United coach Benni McCarthy because he would have undoubtedly helped the forward behind the scenes and the United manager pointed to McCarthy when Rashford scored with his head in the 1-0 win over West Ham at the end of October.

The Three Lions striker was praised by his manager after the game and says that Rashford will get the rewards like he did against Burnley if he keeps showing his appetite and desire to get the ball.
“I think he was a threat for the defending line of Burnley. He moved so often behind the defending line and they are the most difficult situations to get the ball there. But with the passing capabilities of players like Eriksen, Casemiro and Bruno, we have the players that can get the ball there. [You have to] keep going and keep believing that the ball is going to get there, but it is an investment. [It] costs a lot of energy and costs a lot of power and today he got the benefit from it. It was a dribble and a great goal” [via Man Utd].
Rashford will be hoping to pick up from where he left off from as he aims to help United secure all three points against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Tuesday 27th December, which is the Reds’ next game.
