Back in the days when the summer transfer window had just opened, I was optimistic that the club had serious intentions when it came to recruitment and that steps would be taken to ensure the gap between us and the duo of Manchester City and Liverpool could be closed.
Now, less than twelve hours after the transfer window has slammed shut, I’m asking myself whether the business conducted, when it comes to incoming deals, will have served that purpose.
Instead of a plethora of deals, us Manchester United supporters have had to be content with the club bringing in just three players, Daniel James (Swansea), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace) and Harry Maguire (Leicester City).
The combined cost of those three deals is an impressive £140 million with the majority of that bringing Harry Maguire to the club, hopefully to fill the defensive void that has cost us dearly on numerous occasions.
We may have managed to keep Paul Pogba and David de Gea has also put pen-to-paper on a new deal, but we should also point out we could be considered, following the sale, of Romelu Lukaku, to be a little light up front.
But have we had the sort of transfer window that will have our rivals looking over their shoulders and fearing a title challenge from Manchester United?
At this precise moment in time I’m doubtful that we have!
