With this summer, as far as the transfer window goes, being a steady affair rather than a spectacular one, is there time for Manchester United to pull off a deal that would certainly dominate the back pages of the mainstream media?
There most certainly is but whether it will happen remains uncertain.
But one deal that would fall into the above category would be the shock acquisition of the Real Madrid player, Gareth Bale.
Bale, who, this week, saw a proposed move to China collapse in spectacular fashion, is out on a limb at the Bernabeu with the current Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, not rating the player.
At 30-years-of-age, there’s no doubting the Welsh international has a few years left at the top of his profession but would a move to Old Trafford make financial sense?
At the moment you’d have to say no, Bale’s exorbitant salary would be enough to deter the Old Trafford hierarchy and with Real Madrid wanting some kind of fee would make a deal financially impractical.
However, I suspect that to end the current stand-off Bale finds himself in, the Welshman might be willing to come to a compromise, as could Real Madrid with a transfer fee, with moderation being the buzz word.
Bale finally arriving at Old Trafford and pulling on our famous red shirt is certainly something that excites me, but can you see it happening, or indeed would you like to see it happen?
