Opinion: Defender Could Still Join United Despite Fears That Wouldn’t Be The Case

|

As far as transfer speculation goes, I have to admit the numerous column inches being written, by the media, about where the Dutch defender, Matthijs de Ligt, will be playing his football next season, is certainly very intriguing.

The last time we visited the situation, Click Here, it looked very much as if de Ligt had decided against a move to the Premier League.

But is that still the case?

Whilst the media continue to offer the suggestion that de Ligt will move from Ajax to another European club, with
ESPN, inferring he is Barcelona bound and the Daily Mail, championing Paris Saint-Germain as his next stop off point, there are other media sources that give the Manchester United support hope that de Ligt could, eventually, end up at Old Trafford

Lurking in Mundodeportivo, is the inference that the 19-year-old defender has no idea where his future lies and will decide whilst he is resting up on holiday, whilst the Sport, is running with the revelation that the young defenders’ advisors are recommending he joins Manchester United where he will be guaranteed regular starts.

But there is a twist in this particular article with it also being inferred that de Ligt should move to Old Trafford as a stepping-stone ahead of a move to Barcelona later in his career.

As I said earlier, it’s all very intriguing, but having watched de Ligt last season, he’s definitely a cut above those we presently have to choose from for those central defensive positions in our side.

Can Manchester United persuade the teenager that Old Trafford is the place to be, or will he be swayed by a move to the bright lights of either Paris or Barcelona?

I’m certainly keeping my fingers crossed that it is the former.
