A top four finish is assured in the Premier League, but it is looking like it will be fourth place to be precise, and United may now face a crucial early season Champions League qualifier.

It is not the ideal situation that would have been a top three finish but to us Manchester United supporters it is a vast improvement on what we had to put up with last season when we couldn`t even manage a place in the Europa League.

Talking about our finish and the more than likely prospect of a Champions League qualifier, in early August, Louis van Gaal had this to say,

‘We have not yet qualified for Champions League. It is always stressful as you can meet opponent who is halfway through a season already. It is not so easy. I am satisfied we have set our goal and reached that. From what I have seen of the fans they are pleased. But I want more as manager. Next year we will fight for more.’

I`m sure we will, Louis van Gaal will spend in the summer and bring in some top-class players to fill the gaps, onward progression is the term that springs to mind.
