The win at Anfield yesterday lunchtime was something to savour.

To win away from home against Liverpool is always a sweet moment but to, in the process, witness Steven Gerrard get sent off some thirty-eight seconds after coming on, brings an even wider smile to our faces.

Gerrard was like a man possessed, chasing after the ball in rage and has to cope with the consequences of his actions, quite probably, ending Liverpool`s hopes of a Champions League place next season.

Although there is still some distance to go in this Premier League campaign our two most recent performances, against Spurs and against Liverpool, suggest that we`ll be hanging on to the shirt-tails of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal, with the possibility that we could even overhaul one or two of them sides to complete a remarkable turn around to our season.

After the dust had settled on another feisty encounter at Anfield, Louis van Gaal gave his views on what he was to call one off the most important of his career, with the Dutchman remarking,

“We beat them with their own weapons and the pressure on the ball.

“Now the gap is five points ahead of Liverpool and six ahead of Southampton and Tottenham – so the win is one of the most important in my career.

“It is the moment – we are coming back.”

Indeed it looks as if we are; whatever happened to that dark cloud and all that negativity we were embroiled in not too long ago?
