And so the World Cup Qualifier, against Poland, in Warsaw, finally got played!

If I were to be brutally honest, I`d have to admit that the game left me pondering why I`d rushed home from work to watch it. England looked laborious and sluggish and even our own Wayne Rooney, despite getting on the score-sheet, seemed a little off the pace before being substituted in the second half.

After the game, Rooney spoke to the media and admitted it hadn`t been one of his, or England`s, best performances, remarking,

“We know we can play a lot better than that. But at least we got the point.”

“We`ll go over for a game in Sweden next month and see where we could do better.”

“We knew it was a tough group but we`re confident. We believe in ourselves and we believe we are the best team in the group, so we are confident of qualifying.”

“Hopefully, we will win the rest of our home games and we will have a great chance.”

“It was a hard-fought point, a difficult game on a difficult pitch.”

“We weren`t at our best but we dug in and got a draw. This is a difficult place to come. It is a decent point.”

“I know I can play better than that. It was hard work, getting up and down.”

Will those two points dropped be costly as Rooney, and England, chase down a place in the 2014 World Cup Finals, in Brazil?
