Last night 18 year-old Luke Shaw made his World Cup Finals debut as England drew 0-0 with Costa Rica.

Shaw, as you`d expect, gave a competent display and looks as if (if Southampton agree to sell him) to be a good acquisition to any top-ranking Premier League club.

Since the closure of the January transfer window there has been a strong suggestion that it would be Manchester United that would land the talented teenager.

However, it appears that the price for the talented youngster appears to be spiraling in an upward direction.

£27 million was a figure that was initially mentioned and this has, so the press informs us, climbed to first £30 million and then £34 million.

Yesterday, with a managerial change having taken place at Southampton, the inference from the new incumbent of the role, Ronald Koeman, that it would take a fee of £40 million for Southampton to agree to a transfer.

Understandably this has been met with a lukewarm response from Manchester united with their now being a heavy hint that the club will not be held to ransom and that United could switch their attentions to elsewhere!
