We all remember the slogans from two years ago – the club had been bought. Now investors from Dubai and China would like to make a bid for United.

The two rival groups are rumoured to be ready to offer 1 billion pounds for the club – an astonishing amount. But of course it’s a bit different to the situation of two years ago – this time, if the Glazers refuse, then any prospective bidders are helpless.

‘United is not for sale,’ the family’s spokesman said Sunday. ‘The Glazer family is 100 per cent committed to long-term investment and ownership in the club … demonstrated by the expenditure during the transfer window.

‘The position has not changed and nor will it.’


Well, I’m happy. I was opposed to the Glazers’ takeover but so far, apart from the increase in the ticket prices and the wretched automatic cup ticket scheme, they did not prove that horrible. Better the known and acceptable owners than some unknown investors…
