As Manchester United get set to play their last-16 knockout tie first leg, in Russia, against FC Rostov, it appears that not all is well with the pitch.

Ahead of the trip the Rostov manager, Ivan Daniliants, had suggested the pitch was far from perfect but its condition has even surprised Jose Mourinho.

At his pre-match press conference, ahead of the tie, Jose has commented about the playing surface, remarking,

‘It’s still hard for me to believe that we are going to play there.

‘I know that we have to, but it is hard for me to believe we are going to play on Thursday on that field – if you can call it a field.’

But it looks as if the condition of the ‘field` could have further ramifications, with Jose remarking its condition may affect his team selection with Jose further remarking to the media,

‘I don’t know what team to play, really. I don’t know if Henrikh Mkhitaryan is going to play, I don’t know.

‘I have now a lot to think about because I was expecting something more playable.

‘In a very similar pitch in the summer in China, we and Manchester City decided not to play. But it looks like we have to play.’

Indeed we do, let`s hope we don`t pick up any injuries from playing on the so-called field.
