Was it just a coincidence that Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola held their pre-match press conferences at exactly the same time?

Or was one or the other vying for journalistic kudos domination?

Whatever, at his pre-match press conference; ahead of Manchester United`s visit to the south coast to take on Bournemouth, Mourinho was on good form.

Talking about his ambition for the season, Jose was firing on all guns, remarking,

‘Many more think the same way but they are afraid to say it. They prefer to play a defensive game in words. They prefer to hide and play defensively with the words. That is not our way.

‘It is not Man Utd. Man Utd has to say from day one we want to win title. Maybe we don’t win. Maybe at the end of the season we are happy to finish in the top four. But in this moment, when I speak to you, and when I do that I speak to my players too, I cannot speak differently.’

Moving on to the deal that saw Adnan Januzaj move, on loan, to Sunderland, Mourinho had his to say,

‘He fits in my plans. That is why he is on loan at a Premier League club. If he doesn’t fit in my plans, I don’t care where he is going, I just send him to Borussia Dortmund where he didn’t play one match.

‘He is talented. But in the same squad as Martial, Memphis, Young etc, it could mean not many matches. We cannot be selfish.

‘We have to think about the player. Let him play well. See him every week in this country. He is with a manager who likes him a lot but we want him back.’

Mourinho, like us, will be hoping for a winning start this Sunday, a win that will set the tone for the remainder of the season.
