The situation regarding the contract situation of Marouane Fellaini appears to be, according to one news source, giving Jose Mourinho cause for concern.

The good folk of Sky Sports are reporting that Mourinho is concerned that Fellaini, who has a contract that expires at the end of the season, could leave the club on a free transfer come the end of the season.

The Belgian, who had saw an option to activate a one-year extension earlier this year, has been in sensational form this season and has netted 4 times in 8 games before picking up a knee injury on international duty.

Talking to the media Mourinho has expressed his fears relating to Fellaini leaving, remarking,

‘I’m worried about Fellaini and not about Luke Shaw because Fellaini finishes his contract and Luke Shaw doesn’t.”

The difference being that Manchester United can still activate a one-year extension to the full-back`s contract.

In Fellaini`s situation, if a deal isn`t reached shortly, the Belgian international is free to talk to other clubs in January.
