Striving to emulate Barcelona`s approach to the game and make any future encounters between the two sides take place on a level playing field, could see salaries hiked at Old Trafford.

The rumour-mill implies that Wesley Sneijder is looking for a weekly salary of £250,000 to move to Old Trafford, a mind-boggling amount which equates to a £1,000,000 a month.

But, one source in the national press infers that there is a clause, how true it is we`re unable to comment on, that Wayne Rooney, in renegotiating his deal last season during his stroppy phase, has to remain the highest paid player at the club.

So, if true, unless Sneijder`s negotiations can force his salary down, our wage bill could increase further.

Any rumblings of discontent could escalate with those on a lower scale that the two mentioned possibly also wanting a slice of the cake!

It makes you wonder where it`ll all end does it not?
