Andre Villas-Boas first press conference as the newly installed manager of Tottenham Hotspur enlightened us to the availability of a certain Luka Modric.

Villas-Boas seemed resigned to Modric leaving White Hart Lane but intimated that he`ll not be let go on the cheap, to any club interested, remarking to the assembled reporters,

“The interest Luka is getting from a number of different clubs is the same as he got last year. Luka is a player of major importance for the club and that`s why he attracts so many offers.”

“It is in the hands of the chairman to accept the right proposition. Chelsea were involved last year so there is nothing new in the situation. There is interest and the player raises interest.”

“If the player`s ambition is to move we can respect that.”

“But there are club interests that the chairman will defend and only when the right offer is met, will there be more news.”

It`d be interesting, I reckon, to test the water with a deal involving a part-exchange or two, just to see whether Villas-Boas can be tempted or whether the Portuguese coach has his eyes solely on a cash deal that would be used to bolster a side that were almost at the Champions League races for this season but not quite!
