Everton seem to have set the pattern for sales this summer by paying £8.5million for Andrew Johnson, and that has suddenly seen Ruud van Nistelrooy’s price rocket!

Sir Alex has already told potential bidders AC Milan they won’t get Ruud van Nistelrooy on the cheap. And certainly not for the £8m some said the Dutchman was worth. Let’s start doubling that figure.

The Dutchman’s Old Trafford career is all but over, and he is looking abroad. Having just pocketed £30million for star striker Andriy Shevchenko, AC Milan are known to be in the market.

Van Nistelrooy has already made it plain his current focus is on aiding the Dutch national team’s quest for the World Cup.

So whether AC Milan make a move or not, it is highly unlikely any deal could be done soon.
