To be brutally honest, it came as something of a surprise when Nemanja Matic joined Manchester United from Chelsea.

But his arrival at Old Trafford has confirmed what we all thought, the Serbian is a class-act in the middle of the park protecting the defence.

However, whilst Chelsea were, for some reason, willing to let the player leave, it fact he was allowed to join a club who might be perceived as a rival for the Premier League crown remains baffling.

But, it seems Matic knew exactly what he was doing and, once again, wanted to be managed by Jose Mourinho.

Our associates over at the Manchester Evening News, have picked up on an interview that Matic gave to the Air Serbia in-flight magazine Elevate, in which Matic sings the praises of Mourinho, remarking,

‘Mourinho is a brand, and the best coach I’ve ever worked with.

‘Sometimes it isn’t easy to work with him, because he always demands more. Even when you play the best match in your career, he considers that you can play better in the next match.

‘I cooperated excellently with him at Chelsea, and the fact that Mourinho is the coach at Manchester was the decisive factor in my choosing my new environment. Privately he’s completely different from the way he is perceived by the general public.

‘This is a man who possesses all human virtues. He’s not at all cold or conceited, as he is presented in the media. He has created an excellent group of players with huge potential, and everything is there for us to achieve good results.”

I guess the Mourinho we see parading in the football arena is far removed from the Mourinho the players get to know!
