One of the more surprising aspects of the defeat, at the hands of Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, was the absence of Juan Mata from the 18-man squad selected.

Even more so when you consider that Manchester United were seriously lacking somebody in the middle of the park to provide that spark that was missing when it came to opening up the Chelsea defence.

But, with Mata`s contract expiring in the summer of 2018, it hasn`t taken long for the media to infer that Mata could be on his way out at Old Trafford.

Lurking in the pages of the Express, is the insinuation that the Spanish giants of Real Madrid are planning to make a move for the 29-year-old come the opening of the January transfer window.

Real Madrid will also have noticed that although Mata has made eleven starts this season, he has been substituted in everyone.

But would Mata be interested in a move to the Bernabeu?

Quite possibly considering that he started his career at the club, as a youngster, before moving on to Valencia where his skills saw him carve out a reputation as a decent player.

Here at Vital Manchester United we`ll keep an eye out for any further chit-chat on the subject matter.
