Over the weekend I read, in one newspaper, that Michael Carrick could be likened to Marmite!

The inference being that you either love him or hate him.

I have to admit to being a little stunned by the comparison!

In my opinion Carrick is a much-valued but under-rated member of the United side. We only realize how good he is when he`s not around.

Okay, his goal return might not be as good as the others who pack our midfield, but his overall contribution, and will to win, make him an essential member of the squad.

On Sunday, Carrick gave the perfect demonstration of this impeccable will to win and after the great comeback, against Chelsea, gave an insight into the attitude that drives him on, commenting,

“Even after their third goal we still fancied ourselves to go on and win it. And even now there`s a slight tinge of regret that we didn`t do it.”

Now that would have been a comeback and a half!
