Angolan striker Manucho Goncalves hopes Sir Alex Ferguson will manage to get him a work permit.

United’s new signing netted the only goal in Angola’s 1-0 friendly win over Dutch side Willem II as Angola are continuing their preparations for the African Cup of Nations.

The 24-year-old striker, however, is eager to hear of developments back in England as he’s hoping to secure a work permit to complete his move to United.

‘I’m having work permit difficulties,’ he told the News of the World.

‘Mr Ferguson promised me he will do his best to keep me on the team.’

Mr. Ferguson was incredibly successful at that in Anderson’s case but that was a different story. The young Brazilian was a Brazilian international, had Champions League experience with Porto, a club with a fantastic tradition. Someone from Angola who never played abroad starts in a rather worse position…

It seems likely that he will be denied the work permit on the basis that he did not play enough games for Angola. If it happens, he is expected to be loaned out to Greek side Panathinaikos, where Carlos Queiroz has excellent contacts.
