Staring up at you from the back-page of the tabloid press this morning, is the insinuation that Manchester United are targeting the capture of a centre-forward.

The striker in question is the Atletico Madrid star – Mario Mandzukic.

It`s being reported that Louis van Gaal has identified the striker, who scored 20 goals in 37 games to fill the void that the departure of Radamel Falcao`s has left.

Mandzukic has only been at the Spanish club for a season having been signed by Atletico Madrid from Bayern Munich for a fee of £18.5 million, but the signs are that a sale could be sanctioned with the Spanish side set to overhaul their striking options.

However, as you`d expect, there is competition for the 29-year-old striker with it also being suggested that the beaten Champions League finalists, Juventus, would be prepared to engage in transfer talks.

Here at Vital Manchester United we`ll keep you abreast of any developments that tumble our way.
